"my work represents a progression to abstract expressionism ... each piece itself becomes the journey"
artist profile
Australian artist Stephen Borzi has been creating intense, thought-provoking paintings for nearly 25 years.
Borzi's art is motivated by the unexpected, where lashings of bold colour combined with somewhat organised chaos meet to create a unique work of art. His dramatic paint strokes and vibrant colour provide a visual stimulation, communicating with and challenging the viewer.
Driven by passion, brought on by his European background, Borzi emphasises the depiction of emotion in his work rather than actual objects themselves. "It is all about the painting, with each piece itself becoming the journey. Even the accidents or the unexpected, play an integral part of the process in the final execution of the work."
Borzi concedes he has been inspired by such great painters as Jackson Pollock, Willem De Kooning and Mark Rothko. Yet he believes his unconventional use of mediums and always pushing the envelope has allowed his own work to evolve and develop into a style of his own.
In addition to the many works purchased and collected in Australia, Borzi's artwork is progressively making a name for itself throughout Europe and America.
This exhibition represents his progression to abstract expressionism ... another journey begins!
